Our Story

In 2025, we marked the fifth anniversary of our establishment; however, we recognize that many may not know who we are or what our mission entails. Here is a brief timeline highlighting our journey and purpose

2020 | BIRTH

PUSH Birth Partner® was established in Texas after our founder experienced firsthand the lack of support for new parents in the workplace. Through research, she later became aware of the maternal health crisis across the U.S.

RESILIENCE

2021 | RESILIENCE

Shortly after our inception in 2020, a global pandemic forced widespread shutdown. PUSH paused as initial plans centered around direct in-person services. We continued working internally on next steps and welcomed our initial volunteers who supported our public health research efforts.

2022 | PATHWAYS

PUSH announced plans for Pathways to PUSH®, a training and workforce development initiative to expand the CHW and doula workforce, building a continuum of care environment supportive of women and families.

2023 | LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS

PUSH secured its first major funding from the Episcopal Health Foundation to conduct a landscape analysis of the doula workforce in Greater Houston while partnering with March of Dimes to develop DEPTH—Doula Expansion Program Throughout Houston. From 2023 to 2025, three cohorts of newly trained doulas supported 30+ successful births.

2024 | CONTINUITY

Continued funding allowed us to deepen our analysis and implement plans to strengthen maternal health resources. As a result, we designed our own doula certification program. Additional funding was secured for a maternal mental health pilot program and the development of a training curriculum for support group facilitators.

2025 | RENEWAL

PUSH Birth Partners® rebranded as the Perinatal Unit for Systems of Health, or the P.U.S.H., to better reflect our long-term vision.
